SOCIAL EVENTS

  • Friday (9/20): Welcome & Cocktail Reception Honoring Dr. Susan M. Gass
In addition to welcoming you to the conference, there will be a small reception honoring the distinguished career of Dr. Susan M. Gass.  This event features light hors d’oeuvres, one free drink per person, plus a cash bar.  No registration is required.

During this event, we plan on honoring Dr. Gass by announcing a scholarship fund in recognition of her years of dedicated research, mentorship, and service.  If you are interested in contributing to this fund, please visit this website: https://givingto.msu.edu/gift/?sid=5034

  • Saturday (9/21): Brewery, Distillery, & Restaurant Hop

While the conference is located in East Lansing, the state’s capital (Lansing) is only a 15-minute drive away.  Downtown Lansing is home to numerous breweries, distilleries, and restaurants.  As such, we have chartered a bus to take conference-goers from the conference venue to downtown Lansing, where participants may freely explore the area and restaurant/bar hop.

Registration is required to secure a seat on the bus.  For $9, participants can buy a round-trip chartered bus ticket that will pick up and drop off from the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center; (for comparison, an Uber/Lyft ride is approximately $15-20 for a one-way trip).  The bus will depart Kellogg at 6:15pm and arrive downtown around 6:30pm.  The bus will then leave Lansing and return to the hotel at 9:30pm.

Maps of the area will be provided to attendees (the map can also be found online here by visiting this link); the map also includes a list of a few local breweries/distilleries that have agreed to provide SLRF attendees with discounted drinks.  Please note that it is recommended you call ahead to make reservations at some of the restaurants listed.

To purchase a ticket on the chartered bus, please visit the registration page* and select the ticket option called “Saturday Bus Ticket for Restaurant/Brewery Hop”:  Purchase your ticket here.

*Registration for the chartered bus is limited and first come first served.  Those who do not secure a seat on the chartered bus may also attend by driving or taking an Uber/Lyft.

  • Sunday (9/22): Golf Outing
The final social event for SLRF 2019 is a golf outing that will be held at the Michigan State University Forest Akers East Golf Course (https://golf.msu.edu/).Tee times begin at 1:16pm.

Participants must pay their own greens fees upon arrival to the course ($20 walking or $26 riding).  Interested participants should contact Ph.D. student Ryo Maie (maieryo@msu.edu) to reserve their spot(s) for the outing.
